29th - 31st October 2008 - VRQ Level 1 Coaching Assistant
The course is suitable for those with some experience of playing hockey, and perhaps of helping in a coaching or teaching environment.

This is a 17 hour course at University College Plymouth, Marjon. Cost: £140.

Level One & Two Certificate in Coaching Strength and Conditioning for Sport
These level 1 & level 2 courses are linked to the national occupational standards and could form and important part of your coach development programme. More importantly, coaches who attend and work through the courses will have a better understanding of strength and conditioning and will be able to help their athletes improve their performance.

Sunday 23rd September 2007 - FREE Coaching Workshop
The West Hockey Association, in partnership with England Hockey, are able to offer you the opportunity to attend a FREE Coaching Workshop at Bristol University, Coombe Dingle pitch on SUNDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER from 10am - 1pm.
Come and be updated on Core Skills etc.
The Workshop will be led by Martin Rodgers (England Hockey Senior Centrally Contracted Coach and Coach to England Women's U21 squad) and will involve pitch work and video footage (classroom).

23rd - 30th September 2007 - Level One Hockey Coaching Assistant Award
This is a Vocationally Related Award, made in partnership with 1st4sport Qualifications (Awarding Body), giving an externally accredited qualification that sits on the National Qualifications Framework.
It is the minimum qualification for those who assist with hockey coaching sessions and is intended to provide the essential skills and knowledge necessary to assist a more qualified coach to run a safe and enjoyable session.

19th May to 17th June 2007 - Level Two Hockey Coach Award
This is the qualification for those who wish to coach the techniques of the game beyond an introductory level and apply them to tactical play and the coaching of teams. It is only suitable for those with experience of coaching hockey.

Venue: The May sessions will be held at St Luke’s Science & Sports College, Harts Lane, Pinhoe, Exeter and the June sessions will be held at the University of the West of England, Coldharbour Lane, Bristol.

Cost: £375.00, which includes VRQ Registration (through 1st 4 Sport), resources, voucher for one year’s subscription to Level Two online resources, tutor fees, assessment fees and marking of portfolio.

4th-25th May 2006 - VRQ Level One Coaching Award
The candidate can expect the tutor to introduce:

DATES: Thursday 4th May 2006 (6.30 pm – 9.30 pm), Sunday 7th May 2006 (10.00 am – 6.00 pm), Sunday 21st May 2006 (10.00 am – 6.00 pm), Thursday 25th May 2006 (6.30 pm – 9.30 pm).
This is a 21-hour course and candidates must attend all modules.
VENUE: Dragon Leisure Centre, Bodmin, Cornwall
COST: £125.00.

Specifically designed for those requiring an introduction to coaching. Candidates should have playing experience, a leader’s certificate or be involved in teaching/coaching the game at a basic level. This includes primary school teachers, club volunteers and helpers, parents, players, umpires, newly qualified teachers and anyone aged 18 years and over who wants to become involved in coaching.

The PHDG is delighted to welcome Jane Cornelius as Head Tutor to run the course. Jane has recently been appointed as the New RDM for the West taking over from Anne Baker.

Cost:
£90 per candidate to non member clubs and schools
£45 to member clubs and schools

4th September 2003 - Leaders Award – ‘8 new leaders’
At the end of August eight young leaders completed their leadership award which is the first step on the coaching ladder. After completing the award the leaders will now be using their new skills to help at local junior clubs or at their schools. Well done to: Donna Wilson, Steven Moran, Holly Uden, Jamie Stormont, Rob Tippett, Olly Cowan-Darcy, Dominic Lovett and Russell Lyth.

Former England and GB International John Shaw Visited Plymouth Junior Hockey Club on February 28th at Marjons. 54 young players attended the full days coaching which included specialist goal keeping session from Gregor Maier. All those who attended had a great day even though the weather in the morning was horendous. On behalf of Plymouth Juniors I would like to thank John and Gregor for coming to Plymouth.
