The PHDG’s first Primary Hockey Festivals was held in spetember, with 13 teams competing from the Sir John hunt Secondary school group. Each school had a boy and a girl’s team which consisted of 6 players in each, with good weather and the total number of players heading toward the 80 mark this day looked to be a great success, which it was.

 

The festival was set up as a result to five weeks of coaching which has been happening in schools since the beginning of September, set up by the PHDG to raise the awareness of hockey and provide high quality coaching in each of the schools P.E lessons. This in turn creating opportunities for young people play hockey in city of Plymouth. 

Held at the college of St Mark and St John, the festal started off at 1.30 with all the young hockey hopefuls rearing to show off their skills and sore some goals, the tournament was one of the best seen so far with the level of hockey improving year after year and more teams attending.

 

After a mammoth 13 game tournament the schools waited to here the results of the tournament, the winning girls team were Langley Girls A team with Woodfield girls in a close second and third went to the Langley Girls B team.

For the boy’s event, the overall winners were Mary Deans primary school, with the Langley A boys in a very close second and Woodfield in third place.

 

After a hugely successful festival the PHDG would like to congratulate all schools and players for their efforts which could only be described as outstanding all games were played in great spirits and had high levels of sportsmanship within them.

The next festival will be for the primary schools linked with Tamarside family of primary schools, the next school term these schools will have access to the coaching the PHDG provide and then be able to compete in the next Primary Hockey Festival.
