PHDG Parkside hockey festival report

In January the PHDG held the third of its hockey festivals with all the Parkside primary schools participating.

Working in the Devonport area eight schools received our specialist coaching over a five week period and in the sixth were invited to the a festival for all to compete in.

All but two of the schools attended the tournament meaning that over 80 pupils were competing, each school bringing a boys and girls team.

The day looked to be a great success with the damp weather being the only down side to the day. The event began at 9.30 in the morning with the girls playing first; with each school team having five games to play the winning team could have been anyone.

After 30 games in total the end results couldn’t have been closer. In the girls event there was only 2points separating 3rd second and first place, in third place was Morice town girls who had ten points, in second place with the same amount of point but a better goal difference was St josephs and in first place was high street primary with 11 points.

In the boys event it was just as close, with only 5 points separating fourth and first place. In fourth place with 8 points was Morice town boys, in 3rd place was St Josephs boys with 9 points, in second place were St Peters boys with 12 points and in first place by one point were High Street boys.

Below is a table of results for both girls and boys events.

We would like to congratulate and thank all the teams and schools for participating in the festival and having a well structured manner, the behaviour of all the pupils representing their schools was excellent, the schools and teachers should be proud of what they have achieved whether they have won or lost the event.

This event was one of the closes events that the PHDG has seen to date, with both boys and girl’s competition being close fought competitions. This not only shows the beginnings of a consistent level playing standard but also shows the commitment from schools participating in our events.

The PHDG would like to thank all the schools for participating within the event and are looking forward to seeing the new young hockey talent participating within the local clubs in the city and wish them the best of luck.
