The Plymouth Junior Hockey Leagues take a break for Easter with a number of teams looking odds on to claim the first championship titles.
In the U11 boys league, Manadon Saints lead the way after recording seven straight wins with Jevon Rimmer the leading league goal scorer. In the U13 boys Ivybridge have matched Manadon with seven wins to lead their nearest rivals Plymouth by nine points. Devon county hockey player Greg Daw leads the goal scoring table with fourteen.
In the U11 girls league Plymouth Juniors have recorded seven wins out of eight to lead the table by eight points over Devonport. Amelia Black from Plymouth leads the top strikers table after firing in twelve goals. Over the season results have been getting closer with Plymstock and Devonport improving greatly gaining ground on the league leaders standard each week. Plymouth defeated Devonport 2-0 with Amelia Black scoring twice before going onto to defeat Plymstock 3-0 with Sarah Jeffrey and Sarah Norris 2 both on target. The final game of the evening saw Plymstock and Devonport play out an end to end goalless draw.
After Easter the final round of league game will be completed with a cup and mixed U9 competition running through to the end of May.
4th March 2005 U11 Boys
Manadon remain in the driving seat of the U11 league after a fine win over Lipson. In what was probably one of the best games played in the league Manadon were made to work extremely hard for their win. With Lipson looking very industrious the Saints were never in total command. Leading league goal scorer Jevon Rimmer scored another hat trick following of with four more against Lipson B in their second game of the evening. Else where Tom Always was the Plymouth star scoring two goals in each game against Lipson A and Lipson B. Two wins ensure the Plymouth remain in touching distance of the league leaders.
Plymouth secured two valuable wins to remain in second place behind the run away leaders Manadon. Tom Always was the star scoring a brace in each game.

U13 Boys
Plymouth secured maximum points during the evening games with Will Leach on hand to score twice in a narrow 2-1 win over Eggbuckland. Matthew Sumners was on target for the hugely improved Eggbuckland team who had Evan Cox in fine form once again. Manadon over came a youthful Lipson side who considering how young they are they did remarkably well. Matthew Trotter scored both the Manadon goals with the game against Eggbuckland goalless. A 2-1 win for Manadon over Lipson with Matthew Trotter on target twice.

25th February 2005 U11 Girls
Devonport U11 girls moved within three points of league leaders Plymouth Juniors after a fine 1-0 win to reverse the 3-0 defeat earlier in the season. A close game with both sides having a number of good chances to secure all three points. A goal scored by Livvy Roper settled it for Devonport in the second half. Plymstock secured two wins with a fine 2-1 victory over Devonport, Emily Taper and Natalia Annakar both of target for the Panthers. Plymouth remain at the top of the table courtesy of two wins over Lipson & Eggbuckland 8-1 and Plymstock 1-0. Amelia Back scored for Plymouth against Plymstock who were unlucky not to secure a share of the points after a determined performance. The star of the evening was Amelia Back who scored eight goals in three games for Plymouth.

28th January 2005 Rimmer runs riot
Week three of the PHDG Junior Hockey league saw Manadon U11s dominate recording two wins to take an early lead at the top of the table. Plymstock Panthers A went close to upsetting Manadon with the game all square going into the final minute. Jevon Rimmer scored the opening goal only for Rory Colthan to equalise before the break. Then with seconds remaining Tim Orman fired the winner past James Grant with the last touch of the match. In their second game Rimmer ran riot in front of goal against Devonport scoring 6 goals. Orman and his younger brother Mike completed the scoring. After a fine start in their opening games Lipson Lions cruised past Devonport 4-0. Three wins on the bounce could not be extended as Lipson A lost 2-0 to a polished performance by Plymstock Panthers A. Colthan scored his second of the night with Tom Bennett scoring the decisive second.
In the U13 league Manadon were able to raise a side after their failure in the previous week. League leaders Plymstock brushed past Manadon 3-0 with Lewis Russell 2 and Sam Wilkins both on target. A comfortable 7-0 win over a young Lipson side move Plymstock to the top after four games. Probably the result of the night was the 0-0 draw between Manadon and Devonport. With one player short Manadon produced a dogged display to deny Devonport. Jamie Fryer made several telling saves to ensure Manadon earned their first point in the league.
21st January 2005 Red Hot Russell in fine form for Panthers
The second week of action saw the remaining boys teams in the U11 and U13 leagues start their programme. In the U11 boys league Manadon recorded two wins fine wins to take an early lead in the table. Manadon looked impressive against Plymouth who battled well but found James Sinclair in fine form in goal. Two well placed shots by Jevon Rimmer and Matthew Oliver sealed their first win for Manadon. In their second game Manadon looked the more accomplished against Plymstock B who were unable to withstand the ongoing pressure. After the earlier defeat to Manadon, Plymouth produced a fine performance against Plymstock. End to end hockey saw Plymouth take their chances extremely well to run out 5-3 winners. The star of the show for Plymouth was Jack Smith who added two further goals to the one he scored against Manadon.
In the U13s league Eggbuckland continue to surprise teams with a gutsy 2-2 draw against Plymstock. Evan Cox was once again in fine form making some excellent saves to deny Plymstock of a winner late on. Goals by Rob Jane and Matthew Russell ensured Eggbuckland remain unbeaten. Plymstock mean while stepped up the tempo in their second game against Plymouth cruising to a comfortable 5-1 victory. Lewis Russell led by example with a fine performance scoring a hat trick. The first from a solo run down the left finishing from close range, the second and third two thunderous strikes into the bottom corner.

The Plymouth Junior Hockey League got off to a great Start last Friday with some fine hockey on display. After 4 months of hard working planning and developing the league and teams 22 sides in total have entered with a number already set to play in the following season. Played on the new astro turf pitch at Lipson Community College U11 and U13 boys and girls sides play 2 mini matches per evening. PHDG Chairman Jamie Oxley said “the new league is fantastic as it is great to see so many youngsters playing competitive hockey on a regular basis. In total 11 new sides have been developed since September to enable the league to start".
No doubts about it that the Anning trio of Ben, Lauren and Tom stole the limelight after the first week of the Plymouth Junior Hockey Leagues. Between them they scored 10 goals collecting 10 points for Ivybridge Juniors. One side which really shone was the Lipson Lions U11 after winning their first game and then drawing against Ivybridge. A new club set up in September the team are really starting to develop with Jake Abbott, Sean Oades and Hayden Baugh forming a fine attacking line.
In the U13 boys league firm favourites Ivybridge came from a goal down to Devonport to run out 7-1 winners. Eggbuckland who like Lipson was only formed in September ground out a 1-0 win over Lipson Lions and then snatched a last second equaliser against Devonport. Atoko Apaluwa scored the last gasp goal in a highly entertaining match with keeper Evan Cox in fine form for Eggbuckland.
