U11 Boys
Ivybridge U11s moved a step closer to securing the Plymouth Junior League title after a fine 4-1 win over title rivals Lipson Lions. After a draw earlier in the season both sides knew it would be a tough game. Ivybridge on this occasion had the better of their rivals scoring four goals before Lipson pulled a goal back. Will Trant 2, Tom Anning and Marcus Richards were all on target for Ivybridge. Eggbuckland started their evening games off with a comfortable win over Plymstock Panthers 4-1, Robbie Robbinson coolly slotted a hat trick with Owen Jones adding the fourth. Tom Elliot Smith was on target for the Panthers. The performance of the evening saw Eggbuckland produce a dynamic passing display to defeat Ivybridge 3-0. Lloyd Jones and Mike Orman 2 were both on target for the super Eagles. Lipson put their disappointment behind them quickly to secure a 3-1 win over Plymstock Panthers. Hayden Baugh and Karl Bloomfield were both on target with John Chew scoring for the Panthers.

U13 Boys
In the U13 boys league Ivybridge’s dominance continued recording back to back 4-1 wins over Manadon and Plymouth Marjon B. Steve Addison scored a hat trick with Jonathan Turner scoring the fourth against Manadon, Tim Orman scored the Saints reply. Robin Dart 2, Ian White and Turner all scored for Ivybridge against Marjon. In a tightly contested game Plymstock Panthers B securing a narrow 1-0 win over Plymouth Marjon B. James Grant produced a number of fine saves to deny the Panthers before a late goal by Oliver Elliot-Smith sealed the points. Tim Orman and Jevon Rimmer scored the goals for Manadon who overcame Plymstock Panthers B to move up to 3rd in the league.

On Wednesday 15th March the Plymouth Hockey Development Group will be holding a Young Leaders Conference at the College of St Mark & St John. Over 20 pupils from City secondary schools will be developing their coaching, umpiring and management skills.

U11 Boys
Lipson Lions remain in hot pursuit of Ivybridge in the U11 boys hockey league after an end to end stalemate between the top two sides. With Clearwater between the top two and the chasing pack defeat for either could have been decisive in who lifts the title later in the season. Both sides had their chances with Tom Anning and John Whitfield so close for Ivybridge while Karl Bloomfield’s pace a constant threat to the Ivybridge defence. The title looks likely to go down to wire when they face each other for the third time in March. Earlier in the evening Ivybridge looked like they were cruising to a comfortable 4-0 win over Eggbuckland Eagles until three quick goals unsettled the league leaders. Marcus Richards 2, William Trant and Tom Anning scored the Ivybridge goals before Mike Orman scored a five minute hat trick to set up a tense final minute. Lipson narrow 2-1 win over Devonport with Hayden Baugh on target twice ensured the second placed Lions went into their big game in fine form. After narrow 4-3 defeat Eggbuckland finished off the evening with a narrow 1-0 win over Devonport with Orman on target once again.

U13 Boys
In the U13 boys league Oliver Elliot-Smith set a new scoring record after firing eight goals past Devonport for Plymstock Panther B. Further goals by Sam Wilkins and Rory Colthan completed a resounding 10-0 win against a under strength Devonport side. Plymstock Panthers B moved up to third place in the league after defeating Lipson Lions 2-1 in a tight end to end game. Colthan and Daniel Baxter were on target with Sean Oades scoring for the ever improving Lions. Plymouth Marjon A move to the top of the league after two comfortable wins over Lipson 2-0 and Devonport 6-0. With second placed Ivybridge having played two less games Plymouth know that they will have to rely on Ivybridge dropping points if they are to win the league.

U11 Boys
Lipson Lions moved to within touching distance of the league leaders Ivybridge after two impressive wins in the Plymouth Junior U11 Boys hockey league. Karl Bloomfield was in fine form for the Lions firing in four goals against Plymouth Marjon and a further one against Eggbuckland. In an entertaining game against Eggbuckland Lipson grabbed a late win when Ross Cater scored from close range past Taryn Rimmer the Eggbuckland keeper. With both sides looking dangerous on the counter it was surprising that only three goals were scored. Jack Mullen came close to adding a second for the Eagles along with Lloyd Jones who continually caused problems with his skillful quick runs. The Eagles who are improving week by week look like the ones to watch in the future. In the Eagles second game of the evening Mullen scored a hat trick, Jones 2 and Robbie Robinson a sixth to complete a fine 6-0 win over Plymstock Panthers. Plymouth Marjon recorded a fine win over an under strength Plymstock running out 3-1 winners. Will Johnson scored a hat trick with John Chew on target for Plymstock.

In the U13 league Plymouth Marjon B defeated Lipson Lions 3-0. James Grant, Tom Always and David Richards were all on target against a spirited Lipson side. Jake Abbott was once again in fine form denying Plymouth from scoring any further goals. Plymstock Panther B hot four goals past Plymouth Marjon B with Sam Goutcher 3 and Luke Saunders both on target.

December round-up
Ivybridge Moved back to the top of the Boys U13 hockey league after securing two narrow wins. Against a young Lipson side Ivybridge found it tough going with Jake Abbot in fine form between the posts for the Lions. Unable to get their normal free flowing game going Ivybridge nearly went a goal down when Lipson narrowly missed after a fine passing move. Leading 1-0 mid way into the game two further quick goals by James Tuckett and Ben Anning secured the points for the league leaders. Plymouth Marjon A remain in second place after recording an impressive 4-1 victory over Manadon Saints. In an entertaining game full of skill and attacking hockey it was Marjon who produced the more clinical display in front of goal. Causing lots of problems for the Manadon defence was James Grant who’s close skills and intelligent play opened up Manadon on countless occasions. Grant scored two well taken goals to complete a fine individual performance. Also on the score sheet for Marjon were Jack Smith and Tom Always. Manadon who had James Sinclair in fine form to keep them in the game until two late goals sealed victory for Plymouth had a number of early chances. Unable to take the chances cost them dearly. Tim Orman scored the consolation goal for the Saints. In the game of the evening Devonport defeated Plymstock Panthers 3-2. An impressive performance by Tom Hodgins was the highlight scoring a brace to secure a deserved victory. Mike Kelly scored Devonport’s third with Rory Colthan on target twice for Plymstock. Manadon Saints responded after their earlier defeat with a hard earned point against Panthers B. Orman for Saints and Oliver Elliot-Smith for the Panthers were both on Target. Lipson Lions took a deserved lead against Devonport in the first half when Sean Oades scored from close range after a fine passing move. Three goals in the second half by Devonport however denied Lipson a deserved share of the points. In an extremely closely contested affair Ivybridge secure all three points with a last gasp goal to deny Plymstock Panthers a share of the points. Rory Colthan scored the opening goal to give Plymstock the lead with Robin Dart and Jonathan Turner responding for Ivybridge.

In the only U11 boys game of the evening Lipson Lions drew 1-1 with Eggbuckland. Karl Bloomfield for the Lions and Mike Orman for the Saints were both on target as the two sides shared the points.

Manadon Saints suffered there first league defeat in over a year against defending champions Ivybridge. The 4-1 defeat for the young pretenders will be a bitter blow but could be a blessing in disguise for the Saints who are still have another year at this level. Ivybridge who were also undefeated going into the game know that the league is far from won at this early stage. The promising Ben Anning scored a brace in the win over Manadon and Devonport. Robin Dart and Jonathan Turner followed suite with a brace a piece in the 6-1. Ian White and Turner both scored against Manadon. Tim Orman scrambled home the conciliation goal for the Saints early in the second half. Earlier in the evening Manadon secured their third win of the season with a well deserved 3-0 win over Plymouth Marjon B. Matthew Oliver and the lively Jevon Rimmer (2) were both on target. Plymouth Marjon B recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Devonport with James Grant on target.

In the U11s league Lipson Lions remain at the top with Ivybridge only two points behind. Kal Bloomfield continued his fine scoring run with the opener for Lipson as they defeated Devonport 2-0, Ross Carter was also on target for the Lions. Eggbuckland nearly shocked Ivybridge after taking an early 2-0 lead with Tim Orman scoring twice. Ivybridge battled back to stun Eggbuckland who went close to securing a deserved point. John Whitfield and Tom Anning (2) both scored for Ivybridge. Plymstock secured their first win of the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Eggbuckland, Ashley Hendrick on target, while Devonport and Ivybridge played out a highly entertaining end to end 0-0 draw.

Ivybridge Show their class
Ivybridge Boys showed why they are one of the best junior clubs in the area with both the U11 and U13 boys teams winning their scheduled matches. In the U11s league Ivybridge have most of the same side from last year still available, which showed as they defeated a young Plymstock side 9-0. Josh Hunt scored four goals against Plymstock before following up with another three in the sides 6-1 win over Lipson Lions. Karl Bloomfield continued his scoring run for Lipson with a goal against Ivybridge and the winner against Plymouth Marjon. With out doubt the most exciting game of the evening was a 2-0 win for Plymouth Marjon over Eggbuckland. James Dent opened the scoring for Plymouth in the first half who were fortunate to stay in front. Mike Orman and Jack Mullen came so close to scoring for Eggbuckland, both shooting narrowly wide. In the second half as Eggbuckland pressed forward with Mullen and Lloyd Jones creating chances Plymouth countered scoring the vital second with Dent once again the scorer to seal a 2-0 win.

Ivybridge U13s found it tough going against a well organized and skillful Plymstock B side grounding out a 2-1 victory. Jonathan Turner and Ben Anning were both on target with Rory Colthan scoring for Plymstock. Once again it looks like Ivybridge are the team to beat. Plymstock followed up with a deserved point against Plymouth Marjon who had to come from behind to snatch a point. Francis Saunders-Smith opened the scoring for Plymstock from close range only for James Grant to equalize in the first half. Both teams had their chances to take all three point but some fine saves from both keepers ensured both teams shared the points. Lipson Lions fought extremely hard against Plymouth Marjon nearly snatching a point. A late winner from Jamie Healy gave Plymouth all the points.

It was the turn of the girls teams to get back to action last week with the start of the U11 and U13 junior leagues. The introduction of an U13 league is an added bonus for the development of the game across the city with five team competing for the honours. In the U11s league Devonport opened with a hard fought 2-0 win over a young a skillful Ivybridge team following up with a close 2-1 victory against Plymstock. In Plymstock’s opening game Megan Thomas scored twice with Chloe Bailey adding the third in a fine 3-1 win over an enthusiastic Plymouth team. The final game of the evening saw Ivybridge record the best win of the evening defeating Plymouth 4-1, talented Carmen Ansley scored twice with Hannah Smith and Emma Pethybridge also on target.
Plymouth and Ivybridge shared the points in the U13 opening encounter with Amelia Back continuing where she left off last season scoring the opening goal for Plymouth. Ivybridge responded with Jenna Simpkins scoring from close range. Devonport found both Plymouth and Ivybridge too strong going down 4-0 in both games. Kenzie Watson was the star for Devonport saving countless efforts to ensure her side kept Devonport in both games.

Panthers mauled by Lions as Bloomfield scores five
Lipson Lions got off to a flying start to their league season with two impressive wins over Plymstock Panthers and Eggbuckland Eagles. The star of the show was Carl Bloomfield who fired in five goals in the win over Plymstock. After their baptism of fire against the Lions Plymstock steadied the ship with a well earned goalless draw against Devonport. In the U13 boys league Manadon continued were they left off last season as undefeated U11 champions with 2 impressive wins. Captain Jevon Rimmer scored yet another hat trick for the Saints with striker Tim Orman scored a brace. Orman followed his brace in the first game scoring the only goal in his sides 1-0 win over a determined Lipson side. Ivybridge U13 boys defeated Plymouth Marjon in the opening game of the league scoring a late winner to win 2-1. Josh Hunt and Stephen Addison were both on target for Ivybridge. Ivybridge U13 girls cruised to a comfortable 8-0 win over a young Plymouth Marjon side.
