Plymstock School U13 boys Stoke Damerel U13 boys

Plymstock School U13 Boys hockey team completed a fine season by winning the DML Cup held at Brickfields to add to the U13 League title.

In this years DML Cup and Shield competitions 11 school sides battled it out at Brickfields. Parkside School once again showed their promise with some spirited performances from a side which only start playing hockey this year. Eggbuckland were another side which improved as the day went on only losing 1-0 to a late goal against South Dartmoor.

In the semi final stages of the Cup Plymstock faced last years shield winners St Boniface College. Inform Plymstock stormed past their opponents firing in four goals without reply. In the other semi final Ivybridge were unlucky to lose to South Dartmoor after penalty strokes. In normal time Ivybridge were unable to convert a string of fine chances.

In an end to end final the strength and quick passing of Plymstock was the difference with Guy Wilkins on target firing the ball into the bottom corner to defeat South Dartmoor 1-0.

In the shield competition Lipson overcame Plymstock B 2-0, while Stoke Damerel defeated Eggbuckland 3-1 to reach the final. In a tight final with both sides creating chances Stoke Damerel scored the only goal to lift the shield.

Jamie Oxley from the Plymouth Hockey Development Group praised the hard work which is going on in the local schools by staff and PHDG coaches. Oxley Said “the standard is rising each year with more school now playing hockey again. The success of the U13 school competitions has laid the foundations for the development of an U15 schools league next season”

In the DML U13 schools league staged over this academic year organised by the City Council Sports development Unit Plymstock Boys U13 side won the title finishing undefeated. The league title was won after a fine 3-1 win over South Dartmoor in the last game. In the girls U13 league DHS for Girls also completed the season undefeated to lift the title.

Any fixtures which were not played have been recorded as a 0-0 draw

Plymstock completed the double by winning the 2004 Boys U13 DML Cup.
Stoke Damerel won the Boys U13 DML Shield.
