The PHDG are currently in the process of setting up an Umpires Appointment and development group to help with this important area of the game in the Plymouth and Tavistock area. In particular the group would like all club Umpires Secretaries to join this group. The PHDG believes that creating such a group would save all the clubs a great deal of time when trying to appoint umpires on a weekly basis. For more information contact Rob Logan.

Ask The Umpire #0007 - Penalty Corners
Q: Is STOP replaced by CONTROL?
By UmpireHockey.com
FIH Rule 15.2.1.j is amended to read, "Penalty corner: no shot at goal shall be made
until the ball has travelled outside the circle."
There are rumours suggesting that the elimination of the restriction that the ball must be
stopped prior to a first shot on a Penalty Corner meant that instead the ball must now be
'controlled' prior to the first shot.
These rumours are false!
To be clear, under the new FIH rules the ball doesn’t have to be stopped or 'controlled'
on a Penalty Corner to any greater degree than during other parts of the game. The ONLY
post-insertion, pre-shot restriction is that the ball must leave the circle once before the
first shot can be taken!
